Frequently Asked Questions
Confidentiality forms the basis of a therapeutic relationship, and we at Reboot Wellness take complete responsibility for it. As per our terms and conditions, your details and information shared before/ in the sessions will be kept absolutely confidential. However, in the following circumstances, some information may be shared:
a) If your psychologist feels you are in danger of hurting yourself or someone else, they may contact a family member or the local emergency service.
b) Your psychologist may discuss your case with another mental health professional, albeit withholding your identity and personal details.
A Counseling Psychologist is someone who counsels regarding concerns like relationships, career, personal growth, and emotion management. They are equipped to deal with emotional, behavioral and social concerns that are not clinical in nature. A Clinical Psychologist can conduct psychometric assessments, and give diagnosis for mental health disorders, along with providing psychotherapy. A Psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication for mental disorders.
Depending on the concern, the course of counselling/ therapy would be discussed and mutually agreed upon between the client and the professional. Since working on emotional well-being is a process, your professional will guide you in creating goals, and accordingly create a roadmap for recovery. However, a fixed number of sessions can not be decided in advance, allowing for flexibility, and letting the client decide their own pace.
We conduct psychological and diagnostic assessments for a range of clinical disorders along with comprehensive testing of intelligence, personality, interpersonal behaviours & neuropsychological assessment as per the need of the situation. We provide a report of the assessment, and the findings are kept strictly confidential.
You can connect with your psychologist between sessions via email to provide updates, or share anything through the week. We do not share personal phone numbers of our psychologists with the clients due to privacy concerns.
Mental illnesses are primarily health conditions that involve significant changes in thoughts, emotions and behaviour in various combinations. They are typically associated with experienced distress and impairments in personal, social and occupational functioning. It is important to remember that having a mental health condition is not something to be ashamed of. It is a difficult experience to go through and it is important to seek professional help for it. There are various treatments available and a large section of people continue to lead their lives in a productive manner despite a mental health issue.
It is true that every individual faces certain challenges in their personal, social or professional roles. A mental health condition can differ from day-to-day concerns in that they may be experienced for a prolonged period of time and may make participating in other spheres of life further difficult. In any case, if you feel overwhelmed by the experiences you are going through, feel disconnected from those around you and find yourself having a hard time in coping, we would suggest that you seek psychological services.
Opening up about mental health issues is often a tough process and it is difficult to broach such issues with someone in distress. In a few cases, it may happen that a person may not be able to identify issues for what they are, and may view other people as the source. This delays the process of treatment seeking and raises dilemmas for family members. A gentle approach would be useful in enabling a loved one to come to terms with their experience. It may help to convey that you have noticed a significant change in their emotion/behaviour and are there to listen in a non-judgmental manner. In drastic situations, you may need to seek legal/police intervention to enable loved ones to get the help that they need.
Like with other health conditions, healing from a mental illness requires early identification and treatment planning. Depending on the kind of condition, there are multiple treatments that are available. For treatment to have better outcomes, it is important that the person remains actively engaged in their recovery process. Many persons diagnosed with any kind of mental illness, often respond in a positive manner to treatment, and are able to maintain productive and stable lives. Even if symptoms return in some cases, it is possible to live in a fulfilled manner with adequate care.
It is definitely important to be interconnected with friends and close ones because they are important networks that help us through difficult situations in life. However, engaging in therapy with a professional implies that any sharing is done in a private and safe environment. A psychologist is also trained to identify patterns of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors – both helpful and unhelpful and is in a position to highlight them. Therapists encourage people to self-reflect and guide them in a manner that they are able to figure out solutions to their problems on their own, which can help in self-reliance and in leading more satisfying lives.
